Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My magazine is an indie magazine. I have used a variety of models in order to create a level of diversity. I have used 3 different models. This means that the style of these people will make the magazine be more relatable to a wider audience.
The girl on my front cover is a 17-year old which is the target audience of my magazine. This will make it easier for the audience to relate. I have styled the girl on the front cover in a oversized jumper which is one of the 'in' styles in todays indie fashion. I have chosen to make the image black and white to create a dynamic contrast in colours. She has a guitar strapped around her. This makes the audience instantly think of acoustic music. As acoustic music is the most popular in indie music i used this because it will appeal to the greater proportion of indie music lovers. The face of my model is quite serious. I made the model make eye contact with the audience because i felt that the target age group i am aiming my product at is in the 'emotional' stage of their life and through eye contact you can relate to emotions.
On my contents page i have used 3 different models. I have used the one on the front cover but she is doing a different pose. she is covering her mouth with her hand. This is a more 'posed' look compared to the more relaxed position she is doing on the front cover. i have turned the contrast level up and re-arranged the brightness level to create a contrasting black and white image. Again this is using direct address to the audience as the model is looking straight to the audience. The second model is a more of a individual looking shot. Being that the effect has made it soft but makes it stand out. She is grabbing her hair(which is in a ponytail) i feel that this is a typical pose a teenager does. I do this when someone says 'pose!'
On my DPS i have used the same colour scheme of black and white. This photo is a more girly and soft image. The pose of the model is a female laughing. I feel that my magazine creates a variety of emotions which relates to the different emotions of the target age groups. The girl is happy, laughing and jokey. This relates to the teenage target group because in this day and age they are very jokey and laugh a lot. The eye contact of this model isn't directly to the audience. I have made the model look slightly away from centre (more diagonal) I have done this to symbolise that she is looking into the future of her career. She is looking onto bigger and better things in her life.
Through out my magazine i have created a good product to represent the social group of indie people. My representation offers support to dominant ideas about indie people. I feel that the magazine would appeal to a wide range of people with in the 'indie society.'

Contents Page

With my contents page i have kept this mostly the same. I have taken the black box out because i felt it didn't fit and it was a waste of space. i made the picture bigger because i felt this was a dominant image on the contents page. i changes the colour scheme on this page to blue as well because again i thought the red was too harsh.

Double Page spread

With my double page spread i have kept the same pose of the model (laughing) this is because i wanted contrasting images in my magazine so that it gave my magazine dynamics. I changed the colour scheme here as well because i felt the red didn't work and was too harsh. I also faded the blue onto the image to create a alternative look. I put a drop shadow on the text box so that it gave it depth. I feel this new double page spread creates a unified feel to the magazine as it brings it all together.

Front cover re-draft

The front cover

After reviewing my front cover i decided to make a few changes to it. First of all, the one thing that is the most noticeable is the photo. I decided to change all my photos because the quality of them weren't that good. I changed it to a mid close up because i felt it gave a more intense feel. I still used black and white as the effect but i made it bolder so that it stood out more. The next thing i changed was the colour scheme. Instead of the red writing on the i changed it to blue so it would give a more fancy feel and not so rock. I still kept an element of red in there so that it would make it pop. I feel my final front cover design is a massive improvement to my old front cover. It looks more professional.

Final mock of double page spread

This is my final mock design of the double page spread. i feel that this one will work the best and it looks professional. I now need to create the text to go one the pages. I think i will either do a general interview or a review on a performance.
