Main Image Photography Ideas
These are a few ideas I have got inspiration from for my main image on the front cover of my magazine. I feel that I could be very successful in producing images like this to appear on my front cover. I may change a few of the angles but I am going to use these as my template.

Audience for my magazine
This is my target audience.
Young, cool, and farce. Age ranging from 16-25, this is because this is the stereotypical age of when people are going out to gig or concerts. This is the prime age for dance music lover to reveal themselves.

+Black and red
+Blue and white
+Blue and Red
Target Audience.
-I will be aiming my magazine towards 'young adults' (16-25) I feel that this will be the best age range to aim it at, as this is the age group of 'Ravers'-I also hope to aim it at both genders as it is not stereotypically a male or female genre.
Typical content.
-Large, dominant and catchy mast head.-Thumbnails for important articles.
-Price
-Teasing content
-competitions and free gifts
-Bright colour schemes

Taglines.
-Pure music, Pure Power-There is no life without music
-It must be music
When in the year will it be published?
-I initial thought that it could just be published whenever but recently I have thought about doing a christmas edition. This would include Christmassy stories, giveaways etc.-If not a Christmas edition then I would do a winter orientated edition. Using symbols like snowflakes around the magazine and using warmer colours.
How frequently would it be published?
-It could be published every month, It would have a theme for each different one.Price of magazine.
-The price would have to be affordable because of the age range of the target audience. so, about £2.75.Photography notes
Photography notes
· Photoshop and image
manipulation cannot make a bad photo good. Use this as an enhancement.
·
The rule of thirds is
based on the fact that the human eye is naturally drawn to a point about 2/3 up
a page.
·
Photo will be more
pleasing to the eye if the main subject is located around one of the
intersection points, rather then the centre.
Middle shots can make
front cover awkward to work with.
·
Breaking the rules of
3rds, you can but needs to have reason and you need to be able to understand
it.
· Can crop and reframe
images so they fit within the rules.
·
The lines of the photo
are very important, the people, landscape, different shapes.
· Eyes normally look
across lines.
· Lines create points of
interest and depth.
· Can add dynamics to the
photo.
· Most prominent person
in the shot is seen to be the lead
· Change the angle of the
photograph, change in light, shade or pattern of it.
· Focal points- what is
the main point of the image you want the audience to see first.

Photography
These two images are very different.
The one with Lady GaGa in is more of a dynamic images. It has a grey/silver background which contrasts with the black lace bodysuit and her off white hair.
The angles in this photo are very interesting. There are many lines used. They all join at a point which makes the limbs look connected. The lines create a path way leading to her face. This makes her face the main focus point. The shapes are very angular. There isn't any curves from her body. This could suggest a strong women. The angle the photo is take from is relatively front on. Her head is slightly tilted up to symbolise that she has higher authority then 'us.' Her eye-line is straight forward but her eyes are just half open which could signify a feel of seductiveness. The centre of her face is along the 2 line which creates the focal point of her face. The photo hasn't got Lady GaGa slap bang in the middle. She is towards the left side, it makes it more interesting.
In 'The Source' the photo has a grime element to it. It's a head shot of a man with a gun to his throat. You can see the man himself is muscular, with tattoos which creates a 'gangster' feel. The fact he has a gun in his hand creates a darker side. The expression on his face is very unique for a typical front cover. His eyes aren't just closed they are squeezed closed which could represent fear. The eyes are still along the 2/3. He is slighting looking up which could be a biblical symbol, 'pray to
God.' The background is also a grey/pebble colour. It looks like a concrete texture. Which adds to the style of grimy/hip hop. The photo has the man slap bang in the middle, this usually isn't done but here it works because it is such a strong image it has the main focus in the centre.

Indie magazine research
INDIE MAGAZINE RESEARCH
I have found 3 different issues of the same magazine. One thing I noticed straight away is that they all have an acoustic guitar in. The acoustic guitar is the most popular instrument in music today. This is down to a range of reasons, for example it is a portable instrument and isn't that heavy. They are all touching it in some way. The pragmatics of this could show that its more then an instrument to them. In the 1st picture he is hugging it. In the 2nd he has it wrapped in his hair, almost to say that it cant get away from him.

Another thing I realised was that they are all men on the front. There isn't many females. This is because at the moment male acoustic artists are dominating the industry.

The background of the artist is very plan. I would have thought they would have had a photo shoot outside, when its sunny with the trees behind them looking natural. But maybe why they didn't do that was because it would take more intention away from the artist.

Music Magazine Audience and Masthead Conventions.
The target audience for 'Top of the pops' is young girls because of the content of the magazine. Including boy bands and quiz's etc.The colours for the masthead are always bold (bright pink) and have 'funky' writing (the 's') I feel that the majority of buyers are girls because magazines like this include pictures of boy bands that they can put up on their wall in their bedroom. The age range is probably from 7-15.
The target audience for 'Billboard' is for teenagers. This is still a pop based magazine but appeals to the older teenager. It has less of the 'fun stuff' and more about music and artists. The colours again are bright bold colours but used in a more sophisticated way.
The target audience for "Beatz magazine' is older teenagers. This magazine is an urban, Hip hop, Rap music, news, reviews and interviews. It has much more daring images in then the pop magazines. This is mainly because of the audience is older. The colours are contrasting, this works well because it makes it stand out.
